[Parmhed and Säll see] that there is a preference to publish in journals that are part of TAs as opposed to those that are not part of TAs. They have also noticed a shift in questions from researchers from “which journal is the best for my article to get published in” to “where could I publish my article without having to pay an APC?”

#OpenRC […] has been in a state of bureaucratic decay for a decade now, having all been hoarded by a random corporate contractor about as responsive to the outside universe as OpenOffice (while taking up as much space; they're the entire reason for the farcical metadata/AUTHORS file in the main package repo).
"""
#Gentoo copyright policy (AKA #GLEP76) has been a long time in the making. More specifically, as you can guess from the author list, it has been a long time in fruitless debate, followed by a short period of creative activity. In its original form, it has been unanimously approved both by the Council and the Trustees in September 2018.
bugs.gentoo.org/653118
Not a month later, once we've actually started requiring signoffs per the new policy, one of the Council members requested a "transitional period", to give their company's legal team more time to approve it. Like, they've actively influenced the policy, they've actually voted for approving it, but they didn't mean for it to actually apply at the time — and they've never bothered telling anyone about the problem earlier. Fortunately, they've managed to get a quick approval and started using it.
bugs.gentoo.org/667602
As a side effect of using it, attribution lines to said company started popping up in random ebuilds that their employees touched (malicious compliance or just corporate bullshit?). This heralded a maintenance nightmare. Two months later, metadata/AUTHORS was proposed as a compromise to stop that.
bugs.gentoo.org/672962
All these years later, I'm thinking that we had a simpler solution to all these, and many later problems, at our disposal back then…

The local 10K run in #PortAlberni is growing steadily. Just under 500 people finished the race yesterday. 🏃‍♂️ 🏃
I've never been a runner so I didn't participate but maybe I'll volunteer next year.
Useless fact: The square bit on the map was part of a paper route I had for a summer. That portion is about 8km. My route was also about 10k and a big reason I got i…

A map from Strava shows the route through the back roads of Port Alberni with various small sections in a list below.

Gotta love how the only “solutions” involve cargo-culting config for a 3rd-party extension or changing a setting in a Google account, which of course is complete insanity. If any account setting has any effect on your browsing, you are effectively logged into that account whether Google admits it or not.

Been chasing some spam PRs on my free-for.dev list. Well I say spam but really its obvious it is people learning git.
But why would they pick a 80k star 1600 watcher repo so practise on?
Finally got one of these people to respond - it is a university that has a list of big repos to open merge conflict PRs against as part of their passing criteria.
Arg.

Good morning, or well, afternoon now and happy Saturday #Fediverse
Let's all comment below and discuss what the plans are for this glorious Saturday.
For me, it's just a day to rest and relax and not do much of anything other than video games most likely.
It's raining and has been all night and all morning, so it's a pretty nasty day outside and will co…
